The breakfast 9 out of 10 kids dietitians recommend
A bowl swatted from the highchair to the floor. A spoon tossed against the wall. A grimace and head turn at what’s offered.
Even confident parents need some reassurance and simple expert guidance, when it comes to getting our kids to eat the good stuff.
Introducing: Weet-Bix Little Kids Essentials, a breakfast cereal uniquely formulated to meet the essential nutrition needs of healthy growing toddlers and pre-schoolers.
And it’s been recommended by 9 out of 10 kids dietitians*. How do we know?
In developing the product, Sanitarium commissioned an independent survey to gather feedback from Australian and New Zealand dietitians, who regularly work with kids. Among 145 dietitians who responded, 94% said they would recommend the product as a healthy breakfast cereal option for kids aged 1-5 years.
So why do they give it the thumbs up? Sanitarium Senior Nutritionist Stephanie Polson tells us exactly why dietitians think Weet-Bix Little Kids Essentials is a great way for little kids to start the day. Here’s what she had to say.
High in fibre
Lack of fibre is actually a common problem among young Aussie kids – more than a third don’t get enough. One serve of Weet-Bix Little Kids Essentials provides 25% of the daily fibre intake of a 1–3-year-old. So why is fibre so important? It fills up little tummies and it helps to keep digestive systems moving.
Low in sugar
A serve of Weet-Bix Little Kids Essentials, two biscuits, contains just 1 g of sugar – that’s only a quarter of a teaspoon. The very small amount of sugar helps with taste, as well as to help the biscuit keep its shape and texture. Other big ticks on the check list – there’s no added salt, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.
Nutrient dense
The iron, calcium and fibre are just the beginning. Weet-Bix Little Kids Essentials is almost as hardworking as the parents of little kids, with 9 essential vitamins and minerals to support young children in reaching healthy growth and development milestones.
Three wholegrains
Weet-Bix Little Kids Essentials is made of 97% wholegrains and importantly it contains a mix of three wholegrains – wheat, rye and sorghum. As a nutritionist, this is something I get really excited about. A variety of wholegrains means even more variety of fibres, including prebiotic fibres to feed your child’s gut bacteria**. We’re continuing to unravel the importance of good gut health for adults and little kids too.
Convenient
Parents are pretty clued up on the first five years of life and how important feeding their toddlers, and then preschoolers, the right food is for growth and development. But even with the best intentions – sometimes life and (let’s be honest) our kids – get in the way. Weet-Bix Little Kids Essentials ticks the boxes for a quick and easy start everyday that’s packed with goodness and most importantly is something kids will happily eat. It’s not just for brekkie. Adding Weet-Bix Little Kids Essentials into other recipes like muffins, veggie nuggets and toddler foods can be an easy way to bump up their vitamins and minerals throughout the day.
* In an independently administered survey conducted in 2020 amongst 145 qualified Kids Dietitians (regularly work with kids up to 18 years) from across Australia and New Zealand, 94% would definitely or likely recommend this product as a healthy breakfast cereal option for healthy kids aged 1-5 years.
